Janet (born: November 1962) has been working with animals since the age of five.

 

DOGS and Janet
  • Trained her first dog, Marty, a black Labrador, for retrieving fallen birds at her father's duck & pigeon shoots.
  • Janet started her career with dogs after leaving school by working in Rayside boarding kennels,
  • Fillapa's Boarding Kennels which is Zimbabwe's largest with facilities for up to five hundred dogs. Grooming and clipping were every day tasks as were supervising matings and whelping of the puppies. 
  • A large Security firm was also based at Fillapas Kennels giving Janet an opportunity to learn about professional dog training and handling methods.
  • Worked as Kennel Manager in an ellite boarding and breeding kennels in Hawick, Natal, SA. where she learnt much about breeding and kennel work including pet grooming. The kennels were a leading Goldern Retriever and Boizoi breeders.
  • Janet has competed succesfully in Obedience and Dog Agility competitions with German Shepherds and Rottwielers and finally with Border Collies in South Africa.
  • Janet was the first civilian to train 'Explosive Detection' dogs in South Africa under the guidance of the South African Police Dog Section in Durban and Johannesburg whilst working as Chief Canine Training Officer for a large security firm.
  • In 1987 her life changed completely, when; whilst living in Durban, South Africa, she purchased her first Border Collie puppy, Sheepdog "Buzz" registered with SASDA (the South African Sheepdog Association)
  • Late in 1989 Janet started to compete in sheepdog trials with her Border Collies in South Africa, and at the end of 1990 she became the first lady to win a National Award, with her first dog, Buzz (S.A. Junior Res. Champion 1990, judged by H.Glyn Jones, author of A Way of Life.)
HORSES and Janet
  • Breaking and schooling horses, age of 8 to 21 years, including; helping with the capture and handling of wild horses and ponies.
  • Competed at National junior level in Three Phase Eventing and competed in dressage and showed Hunters in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe).

  • Stud and Stable Husbandry Certificate from the Witney Tech college in Oxfordshire
  • Stud manager for Dr Allan King, Nottingham Road, Natal, SA.
CATTLE and Janet
  • Training and showing Brahman cattle, age 5 to 16 years.
  • Assisting at our annual production sales.
SHEEP and Janet
  • 1987 Assitant farm manager on Ile de France Sheep Stud, Natal, South Africa.
  • 1989 Farm Manager, Nottingham Road, Natal, South Africa. Sheep and cattle, Vegetable and commercial hay production.
  • 1992 Sheep Manager, Larkhill Estate, Marondera, Zimbabwe, development of a pedigree flock of Dorper sheep and improvement of the commercial wool flock.
  • 1994 -1999 contract shepherd, various shepherding duties on lowland and hill farms, throughout the UK.
  • 2000 Started farming for myself at Dunnichen Home Farm, Scotland.
